The Glitter House

My youngest daughter has a friend, Jeff, who enjoys making collages as much as she does. They can each spend hours making new things, and they’re both very good at it.

One day as they were busy creating, Jeff remarked that what they really needed was some glitter. “Too bad we’re not at my house”, my daughter said, “we have lots of glitter there.”

“Yes”, Jeff replied, “your house seems like the kind of house that would have glitter.”

I love that story, because I love having the kind of house that has glitter. It means that creativity has the potential to happen here at any moment, and when the inspiration strikes, we have the glitter (or whatever) to turn dreams into reality.

If you’ve got a child with Attention Deficit Disorder, maybe you already know how creative they are. They may not necessarily express themselves with paper and paint and paste; maybe their creativity is on the sports field, or in the kitchen, or in music.

Whatever way your child chooses to express themselves, be sure to encourage that side of them. It allows their imagination to soar and nourishes who they are deep inside.

Mkae sure there’s opportunity for creativity to occur in your house whenever the mood is right. And hey, a little glitter wouldn’t hurt, either.
