If you’re comparing learners - auditory, visual, and kinesthetic - auditory learners are certainly the most blessed.

Auditory learners learn best by hearing or listening, and of course we know that the main method of instruction for most schools is based upon the lecture.

Auditory learners are skilled at picking up on key words and phrases, and know to either write them down or remember them.

Few people with Attention Deficit Disorder are auditory learners. Those that are most likely do better in school than their peers who learn in other ways. However, ADHD can still interrupt or temporarily misdirect learning.

If you have an auditory learner, remember to incorporate sound into their learning. Audio books, movies, tapes, websites with sound, or even just having them read aloud are all good ways to reinforce the subject matter.

Kara's Tip of the Week
Organization is a problem for a child with ADHD. Have the teacher check to see if homework assignments have been written down at the end of the day. If the teacher is unable to check each day, see if a “buddy” can be assigned for your child to check at the end of the school day if homework assignments have been written in the agenda.
