A Cool Tool for ADHD Students

The other day someone mentioned a new “toy” that she had just gotten in the mail. Because I am always interested in new toys, I decided to check it out for myself. I had no idea that it would be a really cool tool for ADHD students.
It’s called the Pulse Smart Pen, and it’s from a company called Livescribe.
This is a pen with amazing capabilities; actually a pen and computer in one. It has a microphone that records everything you hear and then links it to your written notes. It has a speaker, a camera, an audio jack, usb port, and an OLED display. It also has the ability to add apps to it, such as translators or themes.
Can you imagine this in use at school or work?
Your ADHD student could take notes while the pen is recording the lecture, so anything that is missed is no longer a problem. The camera is positioned next to the stylus of the pen, recording everything you write or draw and then linking it to the audio recording.
Later, the pen can be synced with your computer, uploading all of the written and audio notes. The notes can be re-organized and even searched by key word. They can even be emailed to a friend or colleague. When you purchase the pen, you get an online account with additional storage for your files and search capabilities. It even lets you print the special paper the pen uses.
I do see a few drawbacks to this system. The pen sells for almost $150.00, and the notebooks you use are expensive as well. You can print more paper from your online account, but the notebook has other functions in it that are very useful. If you have a child who’s prone to losing things, this is probably not something you would want to get them. The pen is aimed at college students, which seems more appropriate.
There are similar devices out there, such as LeapFrog’s FLY Fusion Pentop Computer. Priced at less than $40, it’s a much more affordable alternative, and offers homework related software. It also has an MP3 player, which I’m sure your kid would love.
Browse around both websites and see what you think. If you decide to purchase one, let me know what you think.

Your post A Cool Tool for ADHD Students was very interesting when I found it over google on Monday by my search for fly computer pen. I have your blog now in my bookmarks and I visit your blog again, soon. Take care.
