Pete (All the Way from Ireland)

The other day, I got an email from Pete (all the way from Ireland) – that’s how he signed it. Hope you don’t mind, Pete, but I’m sharing.
First of all, he was in the library and was supposed to be studying for exams, but instead he was online reading my blog and emailing me. I have to confess, I kind of liked it cause it was something I would do.
Anyway, Pete had some questions for me about studying and I thought I would share my answers with you, so here goes:
Getting enough sleep is always important for managing your ADHD symptoms, but especially so when you’re under stress, like exam time.
No studying 30-60 minutes before bed. Your brain needs time to process and store information before you fall asleep. Better to get up early and study then.
Good nutrition, especially lean protein is important for your brain, as is adequate hydration throughout the day.
Take a short break every 15-20 minutes to allow your brain to process and store what you’ve learned.
Peppermint oil or a good strong peppermint candy like Altoids helps your mind stay alert.
And if you take medication for ADHD, consider having the dosage adjusted if it seems to have stopped working, especially if you’ve grown or put on weight since it was last adjusted.
Now get back to studying!
