Study Help for ADHD

I often get asked to review products for my blog. I only tell you about the ones that I think are useful and reasonably priced. SpellQuizzer is one of those products. I think it’s one of the best investments you could make to help your child learn to study more effectively. And just to be clear – I’m not making any money from this.
Do you find it difficult to get your ADHD child to study? You know, doing a worksheet or homework assignment is one thing, but studying is quite another.
Homework is more concrete. There are papers and questions or problems to address. There is actual hands on work involved.
Studying, on the other hand, is a bit more theoretical. Sure, you have a book and maybe some study guides or questions to work on, but most of the actual work of studying goes on inside the head.
How can you know your child is actually studying, and more important – getting it right?
Studying is a undefined concept for many ADHD students. They often believe that reading and re-reading the same material is enough, although it rarely is.
Well, I’ve got a solution for you: SpellQuizzer.
SpellQuizzer is a spelling program that helps children learn their spelling words and practice their vocabulary. But don’t let the name fool you; SpellQuizzer can be used for way more than just spelling lists.
The software basically allows you to input questions and then record the answers. So a parent or a child could type in (or record audio) with a question. It could be a spelling word, or it could just as easily be a history question. It’s sort of like virtual flash cards – which, by the way, is a very effective means of studying.
One of the features I especially like about SpellQuizzer is the audio component. The act of working at the computer (kinesthetic and visual learning) and hearing the words (auditory learning) is a powerful combination for ADHD students. If you allow your child to put the questions in themselves, you double the learning experience, especially if they record audio. The more senses involved, the more learning.
I found the program very easy to set up and use, which is important to me.
SpellQuizzer also has a number of other features that I like:
It’s set up to be used with any spelling curriculum, because you are creating it.
There is a page on the site for homeschoolers.
Users have the ability to share lists with other users, and there are lists already available as well.
You do need a microphone to record audio. If your computer doesn’t have one, you can easily find them at more stores for less than $10.
SpellQuizzer can be used by anyone. It’s as appropriate for a second grader studying spelling as it is for a college student studying chemistry. It’s less than $30.00 and you can try it out for free. What have you got to lose? Check it out for yourself!
