Did you know that taking iron (ferritin) supplements can be beneficial for people with ADHD if their iron levels are low?

A recent French study found that 84% of children between the ages of 4 – 14 who had been diagnosed with ADHD had significantly low iron levels.

Iron is an essential element in helping the body produce dopamine, which regulates attention, behavior, and cognition as well as emotions.

Children in the study who were given iron to bring their blood levels up to normal showed a marked improvement in their ADHD symptoms and learning in general.

Of course, women of child bearing age should also have their iron levels checked to make sure that they are within the normal range.

If you or your child’s diet does not contain meat, iron fortified cereals or breads, then you may be at risk for low iron levels.

It’s important to have your doctor check this for you before you add more iron to your diet; too much iron can be problematic as well.
