I just read an article about a school district in Charlestown, Indiana that experimented with giving laptops to middle and high school students. The results were inspiring to say the least.

I was especially interested in the comments made by a couple of the students who said that using a laptop in school helped them maintain their interest level and improve their grades.

It would be wonderful if more school districts had the ability to provide laptops for their students; I think it could have a huge impact on not only the students, but society in general.

An interesting sidenote: I once coached a young man with ADHD and a genius IQ who was barely passing high school. I suggested the use of a laptop in school (which his parents would provide). The school rejected the idea, saying it would give him an “unfair advantage”.

Since when did learning become a competition?
